A federal judge has intervened to prevent President Donald Trump's plan to send 300 California National Guard troops to Portland, blocking the move that California Governor Gavin Newsom described as an 'unlawful attempt'.

Governor Newsom confirmed the court's decision via a social media post, indicating that a Temporary Restraining Order was granted to halt any federalization or deployment of the Guard members to Oregon. This legal victory for California follows an earlier court ruling that had stopped Trump's effort to federalize Oregon's National Guard.

Despite the judicial setback, reports indicate that around 200 Guard members from California have already been reassigned to Portland with an additional 100 expected, a move linked to escalating protests outside a local ICE facility. The deployments continue to stir controversy as legal and political battles unfold across other states, including Illinois, highlighting ongoing federal and state tensions over troop mobilizations.
