In a devastating accident, a jeep carrying pilgrims in Nepal's Rolpa district plummeted off a cliff, killing at least 20 people. The vehicle reportedly veered off a ridge road in Thabang Rural Municipality on Thursday evening, as confirmed by The Kathmandu Post and local police sources.
Passengers were en route from Rukum East to Jaljala for ritualistic purposes, marking the full moon's occasion. According to Sunil Thapa Nepali, an information officer at the Rolpa District Police Office, police officers, along with local residents, swiftly mobilized for rescue operations at the crash site.
The accident is believed to have been caused by slippery roads due to rain, as per reports. Rolpa's Chief District Officer, Ganga Bahadur Chhetri, stated that emergency personnel were deployed immediately. Authorities continue to coordinate rescue and recovery efforts, with further updates anticipated.
