Unveiling the Hungarian Spy Network Targeting Ukraine: A Geopolitical Twist
Ukraine's SBU security agency claims to have uncovered a Hungarian-run spy network aimed at collecting intelligence on Ukraine's military defenses. Two suspected agents, allegedly run by Hungarian military intelligence, are in custody for suspected state treason. Tensions persist between Hungary and Ukraine over military aid and ethnic Hungarian rights.

Ukraine's SBU agency announced on Friday it had uncovered a Hungarian-run spy network allegedly targeting its military defenses. Two suspects, purportedly linked to Hungarian military intelligence, have been detained, marking a historic first for Ukraine.
Hungary, a member of the EU and NATO, has not responded to requests for comment. The two countries have a fraught relationship, with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban often skeptical of Western military aid to Ukraine, while maintaining ties with Vladimir Putin.
The SBU claims the detained suspects are ex-Ukrainian military members recruited by Hungarian intelligence. Allegedly, they were tasked with relaying information about Ukraine's air defenses in the Transcarpathia region, home to 150,000 ethnic Hungarians, where past tensions have arisen over language rights.
