Civil defence mock exercises were carried out at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli district and the North Chennai Thermal Power Station, Unit-2, Athipattu, on Friday.

The simulations aimed to test the emergency preparedness of the civil defence system under the guidelines provided by the Union Home Affairs Ministry, simulating an air raid in a war-like emergency.

The mock drill included rehearsals for protection measures, safe evacuation procedures, and administering first aid, as confirmed by the Tamil Nadu government.

The State Emergency Operation Centre, the District Emergency Operation Centre at Tiruvallur District, and local control rooms at Kudankulam and NCTPS were activated for the exercise.

District officials, state commando forces, Home Guards, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, Central Industrial Security Force, and medical teams participated, as noted in an official release.

Looking ahead, civil defence mock exercises are scheduled for VOC Port and Thoothukudi Thermal Power Station at 4 pm on May 10 to further test the emergency response systems at these critical locations, according to the release.
