In an unprecedented move towards peace, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announced its decision to disband and disarm on Monday. This decision follows a call by PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who urged the group to end decades of conflict with Turkey.

The Firat News Agency, known for its close ties to the PKK, released a statement following a congress held by the group in northern Iraq. The congress resolved to dissolve the PKK's organizational structure and cease armed activities, with Ocalan leading the implementation.

Since 1984, the PKK's insurgency has claimed tens of thousands of lives. Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its allies, the group's decision to focus on democratic politics marks a significant shift, ostensibly completing its historical mission by bringing the Kurdish issue to a resolution.
