General Naravane on Diplomacy: War is Not a Bollywood Movie

In a candid address, former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Naravane dismissed misconceptions about war, likening it neither to romance nor a Bollywood spectacle. Speaking in Pune, he advocated for diplomacy as a preferred alternative to armed conflict, which should only be considered as a last resort.

Citing recent military operations targeting terrorist infrastructure, Gen Naravane highlighted their strategic success in compelling Pakistan to discuss peace. He further emphasized the profound social and emotional toll of warfare, mentioning PTSD and the intergenerational trauma faced by families affected by conflict.

The former Army Chief also stressed the necessity of a robust defense budget for national security, considering it an insurance premium. While grappling with conflicting national priorities like education and healthcare, he affirmed the essential role of a well-prepared military in preventing unprovoked aggression.
