On Monday, a Russian prosecutor demanded a six-year prison sentence for Grigory Melkonyants, head of the independent election monitoring organization Golos, a Reuters correspondent reported from the court.

The sentence aligns with the maximum penalty stipulated under the criminal code article invoked against him. A verdict in the trial is anticipated soon.

Melkonyants, detained in August 2023 on accusations of collaborating with an 'undesirable organisation,' has pleaded not guilty.
