The Delhi High Court, on Wednesday, sought responses from both the Centre and the Delhi government regarding delays plaguing the Juvenile Justice Boards, following a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by iProbono India Legal Services.
The case takes issue with the lengthy timelines not being adhered to for juvenile inquiries, risking justice and the rights of children to a timely trial. Currently, Delhi's inadequate number of Juvenile Justice Boards has led to challenges in fulfilling legal mandates, sparking concerns over the effective reintegration of children in conflict with law.
During the hearing scheduled for September 24, the court urged the petitioner to also engage with the court's committee on juvenile justice, aiming to encourage decisive actions for addressing these systemic delays.
