The United Nations refugee agency announced a significant personnel reduction on Monday, with around 3,500 staff positions cut after a sharp decrease in humanitarian funding.
Filippo Grandi, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, stated that the organization will channel its resources towards activities that provide the most substantial impact for refugees, supported by a more efficient headquarters and regional bureau framework.
The reduction in fixed positions and the non-renewal of temporary contracts have cumulatively led to a 30% reduction in staffing expenses, the Geneva-based agency confirmed.
