The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed the Bombay High Court's order to demolish 17 illegally constructed structures in Thane, praising the 'courageous' stance taken against unauthorized developments linked to the underworld and municipal bodies.
The bench, comprising Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan, highlighted that this decisive action is critical in preventing further encroachments in Bombay, urging the city to protect itself from similar illegal activities.
The bench rejected the petition by Danish Zaheer Siddiqui, who represented home buyers affected by the demolition, advising him to seek a review in the high court. The decision stresses the necessity of lawful construction and transparency in real estate dealings.
