The Supreme Court redirected the investigation involving Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) H M Jayaram to the Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) on Thursday. This decision came after the Tamil Nadu government expressed its desire to maintain Jayaram's suspension during the investigation of a kidnapping case in which he is allegedly involved.

A bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan recommended that the Madras High Court Chief Justice delegate cases concerning Jayaram to a different bench. The Supreme Court also nullified a High Court directive that had instructed police officers to detain Jayaram.

The Tamil Nadu government's representative, Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave, explained that Jayaram's suspension was supported by other allegations beyond the kidnapping case. The court asked Dave to explore the possibility of shifting the investigation to a special bench or the CB-CID and report back with instructions.
