The Congress has taken a decisive step, forming a five-member fact-finding team to investigate the alarming rise in reports of atrocities against women in Odisha. This move comes after a horrific incident where a college student was gang-raped on Gopalpur beach, highlighting a concerning trend of violence against women in the state.
Congress General Secretary Deepa Dansmunshi has been appointed the convener of this investigative panel, which includes MPs Ranjeet Ranjan, Praniti Shinde, and S Jothimani, along with Shobha Oza. Their mission is to provide a detailed report on the conditions in Odisha, focusing on the security and safety of women.
This initiative underscores the party's concern regarding reports from Odisha, where 15 rape cases are reported daily. Congress leaders have criticized the BJP government's handling of these issues, pointing to a darker time for women's safety in a state once celebrated for women empowerment.
