In a significant police operation on Wednesday, three prominent Maoists, including Venkata Ravi Lakshmi Chaitanya, wife of the slain Maoist leader Chalapathi, were killed in an exchange of fire with Andhra Pradesh police at Kintukuru village, reported officials.
Chaitanya, known as Aruna, was a high-profile Maoist leader with more than 150 cases against her and a bounty of Rs 20 lakh, according to Rampachodavaram DSP GS Prasanth. The security forces' encounter is seen as a severe blow to the Maoist structure along the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB).
Alongside Aruna, Gajarla Ravi was also killed, who had a Rs 25 lakh bounty on his head, as well as Anju. The operation, carried out by the Greyhounds unit, led to the recovery of AK-47 rifles, maoist literature, and other materials. Search operations have subsequently been intensified across the region.
