Quincy Promes, a former Netherlands international, has been extradited by the United Arab Emirates to the Netherlands to serve jail sentences for drug trafficking and assault. According to Dutch prosecutors, last year a Dutch court sentenced Promes to six years in absentia for his role in cocaine shipments from Brazil to the Netherlands via Antwerp.
In an additional case, Promes received an 18-month jail sentence, also in absentia, for assault, stemming from a 2020 fight where he allegedly stabbed a cousin in the knee. Though denying all charges, he has filed appeals for both convictions.
The 33-year-old, known for his 50 caps with the Netherlands, was arrested in Dubai in March of the previous year while training with Spartak Moscow. Subsequently released under restrictions, including a travel ban, Promes saw the termination of his Spartak contract before signing with UAE's United FC of Dubai.
