As the world marks World Refugee Day, hundreds of Pakistani Hindu families in India continue to face a life in limbo. These families, having crossed the border in search of a better life, now grapple with the uncertainty of non-acknowledgment in Delhi's Majnu Ka Tila.
Despite a handful receiving Indian citizenship last year, many refugees await the same recognition. Meena Kumari, who arrived from Sindh a decade ago with her children, remains unregistered, voicing frustrations over a lack of clarity and the possibility of being removed from their makeshift home.
The settlement, situated near the Yamuna, is marred by poor sanitation and disrepair. Amidst these struggles, the refugee community, including individuals like Udish Narayan, persists in their aspirations for identity and stability, while education remains a beacon of hope for their children.
