The Gulf Cooperation Council ambassadors have expressed serious concerns to the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, regarding the safety of nuclear facilities on the brink of the Israeli-Iranian crisis, according to Qatar's state news agency. During their meeting in Vienna, the ambassadors warned of the potentially "dangerous repercussions" that could follow targeting nuclear sites.
This alert was prompted by an incident where the Israeli military mistakenly claimed it had attacked the Russian-built Bushehr facility, Iran's only operating nuclear power plant, on Thursday. Later, the military retracted the statement, labeling it an error.
The Bushehr plant, located on Iran's Gulf coast, poses significant concern for the Gulf states. A strike could have catastrophic consequences, potentially contaminating both air and water in the region.
