Controversy Brews Over Shrinking Assembly Sessions in Goa

The monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly is set to take place from July 21 to August 8, as announced in a recent notification. This marks the tenth session for Goa's ruling government under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant since the 2022 elections.

Yuri Alemao, Leader of the Opposition, expressed concern over the reduction of the assembly session's days, which has been curtailed to 15 from the previous 18 days. He accused the BJP government of diluting democratic processes and breaking its promises.

Alemao claimed that shrinking session days is a tactic to evade transparency and accountability, pointing to persistent government failures in various sectors. While the session's schedule was defended by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar as a decision by the state cabinet, Alemao pledged to expose governmental shortcomings.
