More than a dozen armed men allegedly kidnapped a woman and her two young daughters in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday afternoon. The attackers injured the woman's husband before forcing the victims into an SUV and fleeing as gunshots rang out. A video of the crime has been widely circulated on social media.
Police have apprehended five suspects and charged them under various sections, including attempted murder, while five special teams have been formed to locate the remaining culprits. Authorities are offering a Rs 10,000 reward for information leading to their capture.
The incident has provoked outrage, with opposition figures criticizing the BJP-led government's handling of state law and order. Congress leaders, including Jitu Patwari and Kamal Nath, expressed their concerns over the growing lawlessness, calling for government accountability.
