A suspected Israeli airstrike struck the gate of Iran's infamous Evin prison in Tehran, according to Iranian state television on Monday. Speculation is rife that the attack originated from a drone.
The Iranian media broadcast what appeared to be black-and-white surveillance footage of the incident. Evin prison is well-known for detaining dual nationals and Westerners, reportedly used by Iran as bargaining tools during negotiations with Western countries.
Israel has not immediately confirmed or denied carrying out the strike. The prison also harbors special units for political prisoners and individuals with Western links, operated by the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. Evin is subject to sanctions by both the United States and the European Union.
