India Strengthens Global Ties through Parliamentary Friendship Groups

India is set to bolster its international relations by forming parliamentary friendship groups with various countries, a move announced by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday. This step aims to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and strengthen global ties.

The concept emerged after recent visits by multi-party delegations to international capitals, post-Operation Sindoor, highlighting India's determination to combat terrorism originating from Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed support for institutionalizing such friendship groups.

In parallel, Birla advocated for the integration of technology in parliamentary processes for better transparency and accountability. He stressed the importance of participatory discussions in committee proceedings and revealed plans to revive national conferences of parliamentary committees to facilitate knowledge exchange and improved functioning.
