In a major crackdown, police have arrested Shavej Ahmad, a former scrap dealer turned telecom thief, on the Delhi-Haridwar Highway. Ahmad was notorious for stealing high-value telecom equipment across Delhi and Punjab, operating a sophisticated network to traffic stolen RRU cards.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, Vikram Singh, announced that Ahmad was apprehended after a meticulously planned three-day operation spanning Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The accused had been using a fake identity and frequently changing addresses to evade capture.
Police recovered Rs 4 lakh believed to be proceeds from the sale of stolen equipment and uncovered Ahmad's involvement in multiple thefts. The operation marks a significant success in curbing telecom equipment theft in the region.
