German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed concerns over the European Union's handling of trade negotiations with the United States, labeling the approach as excessively complicated.
Speaking at a BDI industrial lobby event, Merz urged the EU to concentrate on securing agreements in a few vital industries, including automobiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and machinery.
Amid President Donald Trump's tariffs on steel, aluminium, and cars, the EU is racing to finalize a deal before potential tariff escalations. Talks with the U.S., led by EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, continue extensively across all economic sectors.
