The case has been stuck for over a year, with the Pune police's plea still pending. Special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray emphasized the 'heinous' nature of the act, alleging tampering of evidence, to argue for an adult trial.
The defense, led by lawyer Prashant Patil, countered by referencing the Supreme Court's judgement on what constitutes a 'heinous' act, arguing that the plea contradicts this guideline. They highlight a lack of sections mandating a minimum seven-year punishment.
