Pirate Threats off Nagapattinam: Fishermen Attacked at Sea

A group of fishermen hailing from Nagapattinam faced a harrowing ordeal on the high seas when they were attacked by individuals alleged to be Sri Lankan pirates. The incident unfolded on Wednesday night according to a fisheries department official, adding another chapter to the ongoing saga of maritime piracy in the region.

One fisherman sustained severe head injuries while three others also suffered wounds. Following the attack, the fishermen returned to shore, with the injured receiving immediate medical care at the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital.

The president of the Indian National Fishermen Union, R M P Rajendira Nattar, condemned the attack and highlighted its increasing regularity. He called for robust governmental action to protect Tamil Nadu's fishermen from future threats, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced maritime safety measures.
