Call for Nationwide Crowd Control Protocols After Puri Yatra Tragedy

In the wake of the recent Puri Rath Yatra stampede, Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala has called for accountability and the implementation of nationwide protocols for managing large crowds. The tragic event, which claimed three lives and injured over 50 individuals, underscores serious lapses in security and planning.

Surjewala has criticized the BJP-led government in Odisha for its inadequate safety measures, such as the mismanagement of entry and exit points and insufficient police presence. He highlights the need for a crowd safety task force and better coordination among diverse departments to prevent similar tragedies.

Urging the establishment of standard crowd management protocols, Surjewala suggests categorizing events based on expected attendance, improving infrastructure, and utilizing technology like drones and CCTV for safety monitoring. He calls for collaborative efforts and expert input to ensure safety at large gatherings across the country.
