A Mumbai court has acquitted former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik in a defamation case filed by BJP functionary Mohit Kamboj. The court's decision came after Kamboj expressed his inability to attend court proceedings daily and requested withdrawal of the complaint.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate at Mazgaon court, A A Kulkarni, allowed the withdrawal under section 257 of the Criminal Procedure Code, thus acquitting Malik of defamation charges under IPC section 500.

Kamboj had accused Malik of defaming him in a 2021 press conference related to a Narcotics Control Bureau raid on a cruise ship. Malik had previously called the drug case 'fake' and criticized NCB officials.
