The Odisha police have intensified efforts to combat illegal immigration, detaining 18 suspected Bangladeshi nationals in the coastal Kendrapara district on Monday. The operation targeted individuals residing without proper identification in several villages, including Rajendranarayanpur and Rangani.
Bimal Kumar Mallick, inspector-in-charge of the Talachua marine police station, confirmed the detainees were unable to provide valid identity proof. The detainees, suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators due to their fluency in Bengali, are currently held in a Kendrapara detention center.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also oversees the Home portfolio, instructed district authorities during a visit on June 9 to initiate measures for identifying illegal foreign nationals. Earlier, he disclosed that 3,738 Bangladeshi infiltrators were identified as illegally residing in Odisha.
