The West Bengal government has taken the significant step of extending Chief Secretary Manoj Pant's tenure for an additional six months, a senior official revealed on Monday.

Pant, who belongs to the 1991 batch of IAS officers, was initially set to retire on June 30 but will now continue to serve until the end of the year.

This decision follows the central government's approval of the state's proposal, ensuring Pant's leadership role through December 31, after his appointment as chief secretary in September 2024.
