A shocking incident unfolded on a highway in Maharashtra's Pune district, where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted, and three women accompanying her were robbed of their gold jewellery by two unidentified bikers, police reported.

The assault and robbery took place around 4:15 am on Monday near Bhigwan when the car, carrying seven occupants from two families, stopped on the highway as the elderly driver needed to address a personal necessity. The group was en route to Pandharpur temple town in Solapur district from a village in Junnar tehsil.

As the driver stepped out, the assailants threatened the car's occupants with sharp weapons, committing the acts of theft and assault. Police have registered a case under appropriate legal sections, deploying eight teams to apprehend the culprits, according to Pune (Rural) Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill.
