Justice Delivered: 25-Year Sentence for Sexual Assault in Shillong

A court in Shillong, Meghalaya, has imposed a 25-year rigorous imprisonment sentence on Teiboklang Wahlang for the sexual assault of a minor five years ago. The sentencing was confirmed by an official on Tuesday.
Special POCSO Judge MK Lyngdoh found Wahlang guilty on Monday and levied both a prison sentence and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Failure to pay will extend his time in prison by six months, according to East Khasi Hills District SP Vivek Syiem.
The assault took place in 2020, and Wahlang was promptly arrested and charged with offenses under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 506 of the IPC.
