The South Calcutta Law College administration has dismissed the services of the prime suspect, Monojit Mishra, and expelled two other accused involved in the alleged gang rape of a 24-year-old student, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
As a result of Mishra's arrest, his contract as a casual employee has been terminated, a decision made following a meeting chaired by Trinamool Congress MLA Ashok Kumar Deb. Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, both college students, were also arrested and are currently in police custody.
In response to widespread public fury, the college aims to reinforce campus security and has proposed measures such as appointing female security guards, enhancing CCTV coverage, and reassessing their security agency. The college remains closed for now, although exam schedules remain unchanged, and efforts are ongoing to ensure student safety and accountability.
