Following the tragic collapse of a bridge in Pune that claimed four lives, Maharashtra's Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik has called for stringent safety measures at tourist hotspots during the monsoon. Emphasizing the urgency, Saunik directed temporary closure of perilous sites until adequate safety protocols are in place.
The directive came after a thorough review meeting where Saunik, along with Pune's top officials including Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar and District Collector Jitendra Dudi, examined potential risks and preventative strategies. The meeting was a response to the Indrayani river bridge incident, amidst a rise in monsoon tourism.
Saunik also highlighted plans for broader safety measures on the state's railways. These include vigilant monitoring through CCTV and AI, ensuring passenger awareness via multimedia channels, and deploying additional resources like the Home Guard and NCC at vulnerable locations.
