In a heart-wrenching incident in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, three young boys, including two brothers, drowned in a rainwater-filled pit near a canal on Tuesday. The tragic event unfolded in Sujandeeh village, Payagpur tehsil, where the children went for a bath unaware of the lurking danger.
Eyewitnesses reported that Zainul Abideen, aged 10, along with Dastagir, aged 9, and his brother Mohammad Alam, aged 7, entered the pit, only to be overcome by its depth. Villagers valiantly attempted to rescue the boys, rushing them to a nearby primary health center. However, medical professionals regrettably declared the children brought dead.
Additional investigation revealed the pit was a result of ongoing canal widening operations. Heavy rainfall had filled the excavated area, creating the lethal hazard. Officials confirmed that post-mortem examinations have been conducted, and financial aid will be extended to the bereaved families under disaster relief protocols.
