In a significant drug bust, police in Thane city have apprehended a man from Bihar, seizing more than 3 kilograms of charas valued at Rs 31 lakh. The operation was carried out by the Crime Branch following a well-coordinated tip-off, officials announced on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav reported that the charas was confiscated on Monday in the Kopri area during a trap set by the Crime Branch. The move followed intelligence received by senior police inspector Salil Bhosale concerning a suspected narcotics transaction.
Mohammad Aftab Alam Mohammad Salim Akhtar, 34, from Chhapra, Bihar, was allegedly about to sell the drugs in front of a local hotel when he was arrested. Law enforcement seized drugs along with cash, a mobile phone, and other valuables, all amounting to over Rs 31 lakh. He now faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
