The family of a YSRCP supporter who allegedly died after being run over by a vehicle belonging to the party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Wednesday expressed serious doubts over the man's death, suspecting foul play.

Lourdu Mary, wife of C Singayya, accompanied by her family members, met with Reddy at his residence in Tadepalli today.

The incident took place on June 18, when Reddy was en route to Rentapalla village in Palnadu district to visit the family members of a party leader.

Singayya came under the wheels of a vehicle at Etukuru Cross in Guntur district and succumbed to injuries. Subsequently, a case was registered against the former CM and others over the death.

Though, initially police had suggested that Singayya was not struck by a vehicle from Reddy's convoy, later, citing additional evidence, they said he had indeed been run over by Reddy's vehicle.

"We have a suspicion over what happened in the ambulance (which carried Singayya to the hospital after he was injured). Maybe if something was done in the ambulance," Mary told reporters outside Reddy's residence.

Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu criticised Reddy for an "inhumane political cover-up" in the wake of the alleged hit-and-run incident.

During a public meeting at Kuppam today, Naidu alleged that Singayya was dragged like a 'dog' after falling under a vehicle and was not taken to the hospital in time, leading to his death.

He further accused the YSRCP of ''manipulating'' the widow (Mary) to deliver the scripted statements.

"They (YSRCP) stage dramas, I follow only development and public service," Naidu asserted.

Recounting that fateful day, Mary said Singayya had gone to see the YSRCP chief who was on his way to Rentapalla.

Mary herself travelled to Nallapadu to catch a glimpse of the former CM.

The widow said she learnt about the accident through a phone call. "He spoke well in the ambulance. Despite speaking so much and suffering minor injuries, except on the hand and here (right side of chest), there were no other injuries. When he did not get hurt anywhere else then why will he die? There was no chance of dying. He will not die because of one injury, we suspect something happened in the ambulance," she said.

Following Singayya's death, Mary alleged that several people came to her residence claiming that they represented IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and they were pressured (to speak against Jagan).

However, Mary said she and her family did not utter anything against Reddy.

Further, Mary alleged that police also turned up at her home and showed the video of the accident.
