Two individuals accused of stealing gold jewelry valued at more than Rs 1 crore from East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand were apprehended in West Bengal, according to law enforcement reports on Wednesday.

The robbery occurred on June 30, targeting the residence of 70-year-old jeweler Arun Kumar Nandi in Chakulia. Following the theft, the criminals escaped toward West Bengal, prompting legal proceedings under the applicable sections of the law.

In response to orders from Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, a dedicated raid team was assembled, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Ghatsila), and supervised by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabha Garg. This team worked closely with West Bengal police to execute a joint operation in Jhargram district. During the operation, a motorcyclist with two additional riders was intercepted near Bada Banshol, Porhati under Jamboni police jurisdiction. Although an attempt was made to evade capture, two suspects—Md Rafique from Bihar and Niranjan Goud of Jamshedpur—were captured, while one individual remains at large. Authorities recovered 1,340.720 grams of stolen jewelry, a knife, and a mobile phone, further seizing a country-made pistol and live ammunition based on Rafique's statements. The pursuit to apprehend the remaining suspects continues, as per the SP's announcements.
