In a significant development, the West Bengal Medical Council has suspended Dr. Santanu Sen, a former TMC Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, for allegedly making unverified claims about holding a foreign medical degree. This suspension spans a two-year period following his inability to provide satisfactory evidence for his degree claims. President Sudipto Roy stated that Sen did not furnish necessary documentation supporting his assertions during practice.
Sen, who remains resolute in his stance, declared he had not yet received formal communication regarding the suspension. He criticized the council's approach as vindictive, arguing for his right to mention his legitimate medical qualifications obtained overseas, similar to other practitioners with international credentials.
A senior member of the Indian Medical Association, Sen faced previous suspensions from the TMC and was rebuked for his criticism of the party's handling of sensitive cases. He emphasized his commitment to pursuing legal action to defend his rights and reputation once he receives official notice.
