On Thursday, lawmakers across party lines voiced growing concern over the surge in cybercrime, particularly financial fraud targeting unsuspecting victims. This was discussed extensively as the CBI director, NIA DG, and senior officials faced a parliamentary committee to address this burgeoning issue.
Some opposition MPs pointed to the alarmingly low conviction rates in cybercrime cases, citing instances where accused businessmen absconded to foreign countries, evading Indian justice. Such concerns were prominent during the meetings held by the Standing Committee on Home Affairs, led by BJP MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal.
Senior representatives from various departments, including Financial Services, Electronics and IT, as well as multiple federal probe agencies, participated in the discussions. The committee emphasized the need for heightened public awareness and greater international cooperation, noting that many criminal networks have overseas links.
