Political Pressure Mounts for Justice Varma's Ouster

In a dramatic turn of events, lawmakers have intensified efforts to oust Justice Yashwant Varma, following the discovery of burnt currency at his Allahabad residence. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been inundated with removal notices against the High Court judge, escalating the controversy.

The notices bear significant political backing, with 145 Lok Sabha members, including key opposition figures like Rahul Gandhi and BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad, demanding Justice Varma's removal under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Indian Constitution. A similar push was made in the Rajya Sabha, where 63 members have rallied behind the motion.

The Judges (Inquiry) Act necessitates a thorough examination of charges by a special committee, including senior judicial figures. Although Justice Varma denies the allegations, the inquiry committee's findings suggest serious misconduct, pressing for justice's swift execution through parliamentary procedure.
