Goa Enacts Tougher Measures Against Illegal Waste Disposal

Goa's legislative assembly has passed a landmark bill designed to strengthen environmental protections by imposing stricter measures on illegal waste disposal activities across the state.

The law, formally known as the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was introduced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, amid a crucial monsoon session in the absence of Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira.

The new legislation expands the list of non-biodegradable materials and includes measures such as hefty fines and vehicle impoundment to combat waste disposal infractions.
