In a significant step, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated land ownership rights for thousands of refugee families who have been residing in the state since the 1960s, having migrated from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). This decision marks a commitment to social justice and humanitarian values.

The directive involves resolving protracted legal and revenue disputes, aiding over 10,000 families in regions such as Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bijnor, and Rampur. Adityanath emphasized empathetic and respectful treatment by officials as they work to rectify historical oversights that have denied rightful land ownership to these families.

The initiative goes beyond land allocation, acknowledging the struggles of displaced communities. Adityanath highlighted the need for legal clarity following the 2018 repeal of the Government Grants Act and called for identifying alternative solutions where technical hurdles prevent regularization of land ownership.
