In a significant ruling on Monday, the Supreme Court raised concerns over the Enforcement Directorate's actions in politically sensitive cases, upholding a Karnataka High Court decision to quash the case against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife.
The bench, led by Chief Justice B R Gavai, questioned the use of the ED as a tool in political disputes, suggesting political issues should be addressed through elections rather than legal battles. This statement was made during a hearing on the ED's appeal against a High Court order involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.
The case revolves around allegations of illegal land allotment to Siddaramaiah's wife by MUDA, a charge that had been previously dismissed by Lokayukta Police due to insufficient evidence. Despite these developments, the ED accused Siddaramaiah and others of money laundering related to the MUDA site allotments.
