Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has leveled serious allegations, claiming illegal encroachment of approximately 10 lakh acres by 'illegal Bangladeshis' and 'doubtful citizens.' Addressing a function at the Gorukhuti Multipurpose Agriculture Project, Sarma stated that international pressure has not deterred the government from its eviction mission.

Sarma discussed the significant impacts of the 2021 eviction operation in Gorukhuti, where 25,500 acres were cleared. He noted the reclaiming of land has facilitated various public good initiatives, such as returning forest areas to natural habitats and promoting local agriculture.

Highlighting Gorukhuti's progress, Sarma mentioned a revenue generation of Rs 5.05 crore and planned developments including an integrated aqua park and an agricultural science institute. These efforts aim to empower the community and ensure sustainable development for the Assamese people.
