In a significant verdict, a special CBI court has sentenced eight former railway officials to five years of imprisonment for their role in an exam paper leak scandal from 23 years ago.
Each of the convicts has been levied a fine of Rs 5 lakh, marking a critical step in addressing corruption within the railway recruitment process.
The case originated in August 2002 when a complaint by the then chief vigilance inspector led the CBI to unearth a bribery scheme where officials leaked an exam paper for the role of probationary assistant station master.
