On Monday, the United Kingdom's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) announced that a cyberattack had breached a 'limited number' of UK-based servers running Microsoft's SharePoint software. This is part of a broader hacking campaign targeting the system.
Microsoft had previously flagged these 'active attacks' on SharePoint servers used by various organizations. However, the tech giant clarified that the cloud-based SharePoint Online, part of Microsoft 365, remains unaffected by this breach. This highlights the vulnerability known as a 'zero day'.
The NCSC and Microsoft are advising users to take necessary security precautions to mitigate risks. They are working closely with affected organizations to minimize the impact of these cyber threats and secure their networks.
