The World Health Organization's operational capabilities in Gaza have been severely compromised following an Israeli military attack on its staff residence and main warehouse in Deir al-Balah. The assault took place on Monday, leading to a significant fire and extensive damage to critical infrastructure, reports state.
As Israeli tanks advanced into the southern and eastern parts of Deir al-Balah, seeking alleged hostages, numerous residences, and mosques came under shelling, resulting in at least three Palestinian fatalities and multiple injuries. WHO reported forced civilian evacuations and detentions amidst direct confrontations.
Despite damages, WHO plans to persist with and expand its operations. The organization, alongside international leaders, has called for an immediate cessation to the ongoing conflict, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation exacerbated by resource shortages in Gaza's beleaguered health sector.
