The Supreme Court has set July 24 as the date to hear a plea from the Maharashtra government in response to a recent Bombay High Court ruling. The case involves the acquittal of all 12 individuals accused in the 2006 Mumbai train bomb blasts incident.
A bench including Chief Justice BR Gavai, Justice K Vinod Chandran, and Justice NV Anjaria agreed to expedite the hearing. This decision came after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the state, emphasized the urgency of the matter.
The Bombay High Court's Monday verdict found the prosecution's evidence lacking, leading to the acquittal. The blasts in question caused the loss of more than 180 lives, raising significant public interest and scrutiny.
