In a dramatic turn of events, a police recovery operation in Chandauli led to a gunfight on Thursday, leaving four murder case suspects and two officers injured, officials reported.

The suspects, identified as Shyam Bind Yadav, Brijesh Yadav, Rohit Yadav, and Kaju Yadav, initially surfaced during a probe of gym operator Arvind Yadav's murder on July 21. The accused were apprehended on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Prayagraj earlier the same day. Under interrogation, they disclosed the location of the murder weapons at a site near Gauri village, Chandauli.

As police attempted to recover the firearms, the suspects retrieved and discharged them, prompting officers to return fire. Resulting injuries sent all six individuals to the district hospital. Two pistols and two country-made guns were seized from the scene, believed to be those used in Yadav's murder over a land dispute. Authorities have disclosed that Brijesh Yadav, the primary suspect and a former convict, was recently released from jail. A reward of Rs 20,000 was announced for information pivotal in the arrest.
