Car thefts in the national capital have skyrocketed by more than 52% this year, with reported cases escalating from 1,662 last year to 2,529 between January 1 and July 24, according to officials.

Data from the Zonal Integrated Police Network (ZIPNET) indicates that alongside cars, 105 jeeps and 58 small trucks or multi-purpose vehicles were stolen in the same period. The stolen vehicles included two ambulances, with one taken from Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi and the other from the Janakpuri Metro Station.

These thefts have occurred in both residential and public spaces like petrol stations, schools, markets, and parks, leading to focused efforts on strengthening surveillance in these high-theft areas.
