Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has issued a directive for increased surveillance and preventive measures amid rising human-wildlife conflicts, following two fatal elephant attacks in Chikkamagaluru district.

In light of recent tragedies, Khandre emphasized the urgent need for swift action when elephants encroach upon human settlements, with immediate alerts to local communities and measures to return the animals to forest areas.

To bolster safeguards, the minister has approved new railway barricades, an integrated command centre, and a detailed study into expanding conflict zones. He also mandated timely compensation to victims' families and urged maintenance of current defense measures against wildlife intrusions.
